“I wanted to change phones and ran into an issue with an outdated SIM card that according to Tracfone needed updating before I could make the switch.I decided to shop for a newer phone but noticed these Tracfone SIM cards on Amazon for less than a buck apiece with a gift card bonus if activated within about a month of purchase. Since my husband's phone had over 3K minutes and I wanted to transfer both the minutes and his number to a newer (to him) phone, I wasn't sure it would work but decided to give it a try and if it didn't work I wouldn't be out a bunch of money.I was able to go to the Tracfone website, click "Activate" and transfer the existing number to the new SIM card with ease.Once that online process was complete I waited about 1 hour and the old phone was no longer working - saying it had a deactivated SIM - which is what the online process indicated it would do and then I could use the new SIM.I put the new SIM (3-1 Prepaid) into a ZTE phone that while branded Tracfone had been used for Simple Mobile (T-Mobile network). The new SIM for Tracfone was immediately recognized when I restarted the phone and all the minutes and the number transferred to the new-to-my-husband phone! I was so happy this worked and it was easy to do.NOTE: I'm sure I could remove the SIM from the ZTE phone and put it in an iPhone and have it work as well - if it was a GSM unlocked version.This process was very easy and there were no hiccups. I was able to talk, text and surf the web without issue. I was also able to send photos via messages without having to update the APN, although I received a text on how to update the APN if needed.I did NOT have to purchase a $15 service to activate this SIM. Maybe that's how it goes if you have an existing Tracfone that is active in the system and you transfer the number? Whatever it is, this worked perfectly for me and the toughest part was getting to a live person (versus the automated loop) with Tracfone customer service to tell me I needed a new SIM to make the change.-------------------------------------------------”

“TracFone helped me transfer my existing phone and phone number away from Mint Mobile to TracFone even though an employee at Mint Mobile attempted to sabotage my move away from their company by giving me wrong account numbers and locking up my phone number for 24 hours. TracFone went above and beyond to make sure my number got transferred the moment the lockout expired so that I could cancel my Mint Mobile service just a few hours inside the 7 day "full refund" trial period. Additionally, since switching to TracFone a month ago, I haven't had a single call drop, or a single time where the person I was talking to couldn't hear me! This had been a regular occurrence with Republic Wireless after I moved to an apartment in a newly developed area a little outside of town. When I tried switching to Mint Mobile, the service was even worse...to the point where I was never sure I'd be able to complete any phonecall, or if my texts would go through. But everything is working great since I switched to TracFone! My call quality is wonderful (no more robotic audio) and even my texts with screenshots go through immediately. I am so happy I switched to TracFone! Since I work from home now and am always in Wi-Fi, I only need 1gb of data a month, so I'm able to get unlimited talk and text plus 1gb of data for only $22 a month incl taxes. Since the service is working well for me, I plan to get the year prepaid plan which will only be $199...so even with taxes, I'll be under $20 a month. I'm so happy I switched to TracFone...and this little sim kit only cost $1, and saved me having to buy a new phone!”

“Update: June 2022. I purchased 4 of these as I was told by Tracfone that my phones would continue to work, but the SIM card was not going to work sometime after February 2022. Last week my phone stopped working (would not connect to their AT&T network). I was told after quite a while on with tech support, that my newer phone (2022 model, 4G LTE) was the problem, and buying the SIM card, as they instructed me, did no good. The only way I could stay with them was to buy a new, new phone (of they suggested one of theirs). So they have lost a customer, which they don't seem to care about. Since this happened to me, I am guessing the rest of my families "newer" phones will also stop working pretty soon, and will again be told that the SIM cards they told me I had to buy will do no good in keeping them connected. They will probably lose 3 more customers as soon as they shut off their phones. As far as I can tell, unless you have an approved phone (not Blu, or One Plus) they don't want you as a customer.I have had TracFone for about 9 years, been though a lot of their phones in early years, been using their "bring your own phone" for about 6 years, currently 4 lines.Without going on explaining the 3+ hours I spent trying to get the phone connected, the second tech person I spoke to told me that all the SIM cards that I bought from Amazon were no good. 2 of the cards I bought from Amazon over the past 6 months are working in two of my phones, but he said that I had to go to Walmart to buy new cards. After 2 more hours on tech support, they finally got one of those to work.Bottom line, this pack I got from Amazon did not work this time (but others have, recently). I specifically asked one tech person if he thought Amazon was selling old/ not able to be used SIM cards, as that makes no sense, and he said he didn't know, but the ones I had could not be used. Because I had to go buy new cards locally, these get 1 star, I could not use them. But it did take 2 hours with the new cards to get the phone working, so suspect this maybe a TracFone issue more than a SIM card from Amazon issue, so one may work in your phone, but you may also be told they are no good and sent to buy new ones at your local Walmart (which were almost $10).”

“I want to talk about Tracfone SIM cards. To be honest trying to figure out Tracfone SIM cards is really confusing. It is like watching a movie with a lot of holes, in the story. You do not understand what is going on with Tracfone SIM cards. You have already spent so much time trying to understand Tracfone SIM cards that you do not want to give up now. Tracfone SIM cards are just that confusing.Off you would think a SIM card is just a SIM card right? You put it in your phone you get service. You can use your phone.. When you are dealing with Tracfone it is, like the SIM card and the phone have a lot of problems together. Tracfone pairs the SIM card and the phone together in their system. If you want to be a rebel and switch your SIM card from your phone to a new one without letting Tracfone know Tracfone will figure it out. You might think everything is okay for a days but then Tracfone will cut off your service. This happens because the phones ID which is called the IMEI and the SIM card do not match what Tracfone has on file, for your Tracfone account. Tracfone needs the IMEI and the SIM card to match so when they do not Tracfone will stop your service. The digital version of your phone is like being married to that piece of plastic. Your phone and that piece of plastic are connected in a way that's like a marriage. You can think of the phone and the piece of plastic, as a team, where the phone is tied to that piece of plastic. The phone and that piece of plastic are linked together like a married couple. Your phone is connected to that piece of plastic in a way.I do not like the whole Bring Your Phone kits. They give you these cards that have three sizes. Standard and Micro and Nano. This is a thing because it is like a little toy that fits inside another toy.. Then you have to think about what kind of network you are using. Are you using the Verizon network or the AT&T network or the T-Mobile network? Even though Tracfone is owned by Verizon now Tracfone still has some things from the other networks, like the AT&T network and the T-Mobile network that are still around. If you buy a T-Mobile SIM card but the only good cell phone towers in your area are, from Verizon then you are basically carrying around a really expensive phone that is not very useful. The phone can only play games when it is not connected to the internet. This is because the T-Mobile compatible SIM card cannot connect to the Verizon towers so the T-Mobile compatible SIM card does not work well in your area.The hardest part of this thing is the 611611 text line. This 611611 text line is supposed to be very helpful to you right? You text "BALANCE”, to the 611611 text line. It tells you how much data you have left before you have to use public Wi-Fi.If you are trying to do something that is not simple like switching phones you end up doing the same thing over and over again. You have to enter 15-digit numbers that are printed in a font that's so small. You will need a magnifying glass and a lot of luck to be able to read these numbers on the 611611 text line. If you try to use an eSIM on an iPhone it is really not going to work. The iPhone system will look at your eSIM and basically say it does not recognize your eSIM. Then the iPhone system will insist that you need an eSIM card, which is a piece of plastic.In the end it is a mess of technical details. You have pay as you go plans that roll over long as you do not forget the service end date. Then you have plans that are use it or lose it. The customer service artificial intelligence sometimes feels like the customer service artificial intelligence is just guessing. The pay as you go plans and the monthly plans can be very confusing. The customer service artificial intelligence is supposed to help you with the pay as you go plans and the monthly plans. Sometimes the customer service artificial intelligence does not seem to know what the customer service artificial intelligence is doing. It’s cheap, and it works once you get it set up, but getting to that finish line feels like you should earn a degree in telecommunications.”
