Acoustic drums move a massive amount of air, which travels through walls. Low volume cymbals are designed to reduce the volume of crashes and rides by breaking up the vibration of the metal. While they succeed in lowering the decibels, they introduce a different problem: the sound of the stick hitting the metal.
